Spiced Pears With Pomegranate and Almonds


Pears often get overshadowed by apples this time of year so we wanted to share an easy seasonal dessert that lets them shine. Baking pears with spices brings out their natural sweetness and will make your kitchen smell positively amazing. This is an easy dessert to make the next time you’re entertaining a crowd and want to end the meal on a cozy note.


  • 4 ripe pears*

  • 1/2 c. melted butter*

  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon*

  • 1 c. old-fashioned rolled oats* (such as Bobs Red Mill)

  • 1/2 c. Finely Chopped Almonds*

  • 1/3 c. brown sugar

  • Kosher salt

  • 1/2 c. Finely Chopped Almonds*

  • 1 pomegranate*, seeds and white membranes removed (optional)

  • Preheat your oven to 400F.

  • Halve the pears and scoop out some of the center to fit the oatmeal crumble.

  • Brush insides of pears with 2 tablespoons melted butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon

  • In a medium bowl, combine the oats, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Pour remaining melted butter into bowl and combine until fully coated.

  • Spoon this mixture into your halved pears.

  • Bake until pears are soft and aromatic, about 35 to 40 minutes.

    Top with the optional pomegranate seeds and serve warm.

Recipe Notes and Variations

This is a dessert where a scoop of vanilla ice cream is very welcome! You can top these baked pears however you like, but we recommend trying it with pomegranate, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice,, and some finely chopped mint leaves if you have them. Try using pecans or walnuts instead of almonds to mix up the flavor.
